The classes are a blend of various styles, starting with the flow element of Ashtanga Vinyaasa,
but adding the precision and safety elements of Iyengar-style yoga. My
training is straight from India where yoga, as we know it in the west,
is but a small portion of the science designed to liberate human beings
from their unconscious. Yoga, means to unite, ultimately to bring
together our awareness with its source in consciousness, to bring
matter into consciousness in the form of our bodies, thoughts and
hearts.
Yoga postures, well respected as a means to bring
greater vitality to body and mind, are preparation for studying the
mind, becoming alert to our ego's nature and letting the sense of
separation that plagues us, dissolve.
All this, however,
can take place simultaneously, and that the so-called stages of
enlightenment, can be seen as a wheel, where we jump on any place that
we can. Thankfully, I was trained not to wait for perfect postures to
begin the practices of meditation and praanayam (breath control), and
to learn to identify with the underlying consciousness that is our true
and universal identity.
A sick and pain-ridden body
leaves little room for the deep contemplations of meditation and
self-study. But my true passion and interest lie in the heights that
are reached in the gathering of two or more people for the sake of
spiritual awakening.
