Who I Am

Catching a Warrior 1 Wave!

I am a mantra singer, truth teller, fire starter, tribe builder, yoga coach, spiritual guide and mother of a young son who feels passionate about helping women with a voice get stronger, more inspired and less down about the sense of defeat and being rejected that they may at times have to face.  All my life I have sang, spoke out, and answered the calling to be a creative force. In addition to the inner motivation, I feel the open Canadian prairie land has also challenged me to inhabit the grand space – with spirit, with music and with hopefulness under all circumstances.

What I Love More Than Anything

I am so lucky to enjoy the freedom of doing the things I love – teaching yoga, leading kirtan, guiding meditation, singing mantras, inspiring healing movement and being in community with amazing souls.

I love working with women who are willing to get past obstacles, live from their authentic voice and create life on purpose in a sacred context.  I have great affection for my coaching clients and I love being there to hold brilliant women accountable to their dreams.  It is an honour to gently hold a client’s hand when they are ready to leap to the depths of their true life’s love. Never mind gain balance between their personal and work demands while they grow their capacity for being fully self-expressed.

One Thing I Must Never Forget to Do

If there’s “one thing in this world that I must never forget to do,” (from Coleman Bark’s the Soul of Rumi’s “One Thing”) it is to express myself — sing, speak, write, take pictures and reflect the beauty in everything. Being a singer trumps all for me and is a source of many things – calm breath, open mind, wise guidance, and sweet relief from mental chatter.  It is a direct route for me to practice having helpful thoughts, and keeping a steady focus; never mind helping me cultivate joy, pleasure and creative passion.  I sang to save my life from cancer, I sing to survive the stress of being a mother (in our f’d up world), and sing when I’d rather let out a rebel yell or worse, but have to be cautious and protective.

If it was all about me, I’d might be done and could kick back on a beach in Mexico for the remaining days with my guitar and loved ones. My destiny, however, is to be the space for women who have taken on raising the next generation, developing their unique creative gifts and who are having a voice for others to grow, be healthy and be a creative force themselves — artists, writers, speakers, singers, mompreneurs, and the leaders who are guiding this planet into a peaceful and thriving place. I know if those women had stronger voices, if they had better support for when they face their biggest challenges, and if they enjoyed the amazing health that yoga can foster, the world would certainly be a different place.

Mother India Calling

After winning a gold-medal in anthropology in 1991, I became profoundly disillusioned about academic studies, and I began to travel, work and study in both Nepal and India.  On my first journey to India, my first yoga class ever was with the now passed father of Ashtanga Yoga, Pittabhi Jois. I enjoyed his teachings in a traditional context, with only six or nine of us in the room at one time and was moved to get on a lightening, fast first track.

I returned to India seven more times after my first journey to study meditation, learning to read, repeat and write music for Sanskrit mantras as well. Inspired by the profound silence this revealed, these practices of more than 20 years give me access to the real voice that is forever in me, trying to get out.

My Purpose on Earth

My mission is to see that women who are leading each other and the next generation into a healthy peaceful existence are themselves healthy, supported and get good doses of the joy factor that yoga, singing and a clear fifth chakra can provide. The boost this lifestyle gives me, is ideal for the powerful, entrepreneurial and the innovator women of our world — to help them get a leg up with their health, life balance and clarity of purpose, so that they can successfully have ‘fempowering’ careers in balance with their family and personal lives.

Humans are meant to be at peace – something I have yet to witness in my lifetime, but for which I feel a tireless sense of mission to create.  Being in service to strong, capable and focused women, is my contribution to the well being of others.  It’s time for women to work cooperative together once and for all.

Specializing in Helping Women With a Voice Get ‘Fempowered’ — Stronger, More Confident and Grounded

For singers, speakers, writers and women who are being guided by their creative life purpose, I have created a step-by-step system for nourishing the power that lay in the fifth chakra – the energy that governs over the good health of our neck, throat, voice and shoulders.  It is also the house of our creative self-expression, how we navigate the will of the Divine and where we will ‘download’ the unique code of our own life calling.

A few more highlights:

  • I have nearly 1,000 hours of training in traditional yoga and meditation settings at the source, in India.
  • I recorded four CD recordings of original music set the ancient Sanskrit mantras as well as my own songs.
  • I was honoured to open musically for world-renowned author Deepak Chopra in Winnipeg & Toronto for talks and workshops.
  • I have shared the stage with kirtan artists Swaha, Dave Stringer, Wade Morissette, John Friend and Dana de Long.
  • I survived cancer after being given the proverbial “death sentence” from doctors.
  • I am raising a healthy child against the odds after receiving way too much chemotherapy.
  • My chant Om Poornam won second place in a mainstream radio station in Winnipeg, Q-94 FM.
  • Played at the international Winnipeg Folk Festival and shared the stage with Martin Sexton at a workshop and sang amazing grace from the mainstage.
